-
- The Aquatic Therapy Program
is an ideal option for patients who are recovering from various
orthopedic, neurological and/or chronic pain conditions. The
program, coupled with water's natural healing properties can
offer patients:
Increased
strength and balance
Enhanced endurance and aerobic
conditioning
Improved range of motion and coordination
Diminished pain and fatigue
-
- Aquatic therapy has proven particularly
effective for patients who have:
Post-operative
conditions
Weight-bearing restrictions
Minimal activity levels
Chronic pain
-
- Aquatic therapy is a specialized
therapy approach which uses the warmth and buoyancy of water
to enhance a patient's ability to function, and can be used to
complement a land-based rehab program. Often, aquatic therapy
can help patients begin their rehabilitation program sooner than
would otherwise be possible using only a land-based approach.
-
- GOALS & EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- A team of experienced therapy
professionals works closely with patients to attain individual
goals and objectives that are agreed to at the start of the program.
These goals, which are jointly developed by the referring physician,
therapist and patient, are used to guide the patient's most effective
(fastest) and efficient (least costly) return to a specific level
of functioning.
-
- The program assists and directs
patients to set realistic goals, achieve expected progress within
a given time frame, understand and manage variances during the
rehabilitation process, and establish criteria for discharge.
All treatment plans are individually designed and can be appropriate
for patients with both uncomplicated and complex conditions.
-
- ADMISSION PROCESS
- Admission to CORA's Aquatic
Therapy Program requires a physician referral (with medical clearance
for being in the pool), and a pre-admission evaluation involving
response to the pool environment, pool regulations, safety precautions,
etc. Patients do not need to know how to swim in order to participate.
Staff provides direct supervision for pool patients.
