The Back Program at CORA is a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation program combining medical rehabilitation and education. The program is designed to return patients with back pain and/or injury to their jobs and lifestyles as quickly as possible.
 
The rehabilitation component will assist patients reduce pain and discomfort, help improve joint stability and improve overall strength and endurance. The education component increases knowledge of the diagnosis, prognosis, and causes of injury and pain. By increasing awareness to the environmental factors that cause back pain and teaching proper body mechanics in a home exercise program, patients can greatly improve independence and reduce risk of recurrence.
 
Many conditions and diagnoses can benefit from the program including:

Chronic low back pain

Spinal stenosis and other degenerative disc disease

Back sprain, strain, instability and acute muscle spasm

GOALS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The rehabilitation team may include a physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, and as needed, occupational therapist. The team works closely with the physician, care manager and patient to achieve agreed to goals for the program.
 
The program objective is to quickly teach the patient about their condition and its limiting effects. Additionally, the program objective is to effectively teach a home-based rehabilitation program that rebuilds strength, endurance and range of motion. After completing the two-week program, the patient will demonstrate:
Independence in an exercise program that improves performance levels in employment, home and leisure activities
Increased knowledge regarding condition, prognosis and environmental factors that may cause recurrence 
 
Self-management and pacing skills to reduce risk of re-injury 
 
PROGRAM COST
The program is designed to achieve the above stated objectives by the sixth visit. Each visit is charged at the published State Workers' Compensation Fee Schedule or an agreed to rate. An Admissions Department Assistant will verify benefits and communicate costs, if any, to the patient prior to the initial treatment.
