The Continence Program at CORA
Rehabilitation Clinics is designed for men and women with pelvic
floor laxity resulting in incontinence of urinary or bowel function.
Incontinence of bowel and bladder is a common problem that unnecessarily
forces many to alter their lifestyles to avoid potentially embarrassing
situations. The Program is offered to those with any of the following
conditions:
Pelvic floor weakness
Bowel incontinence
Bladder incontinence
Urge incontinence
Stress incontinence
Bladder irritability
Frequency issues
The Continence Program combines
physical therapy (and the latest biofeedback technology) with
a strong emphasis on patient education. The Program will use
treatment methods that may include:
Evaluation of pelvic floor muscle
strength and control
Evaluation of current bowel and
bladder habits
Techniques in bladder training and
pelvic floor muscle exercises
Education regarding methods to reduce
bladder irritability
Training in pelvic floor muscle
strengthening and control which may include:
1. Progressive exercise
2. Biofeedback
3. Electrical stimulation
4. Behavior training
Goals and Objectives
The Continence Program at CORA
can be an ideal option for those wishing to regain control of
a delicate and personal function. After successful completion
of the Program, the participant may expect improved function
and/or have learned strategies to lessen the effects of incontinence.
The Program emphasizes close communication with physicians relative
to patient's progress towards attaining established treatment
goals.
While maintaining confidentiality,
each patient will be treated with respect and with dignity. Physical
Therapists provide one-on-one treatment sessions in a private
and professional setting.

The Program may be appropriate
for patients with various forms of incontinence. A physician
